The DA will be continuing its Constitutional Court case against President Jacob Zuma, despite the president’s decision to pay back some of the money.

In an overnight U-turn, the Presidency has now offered to pay back some of the money taxpayers forked out for upgrades to Zuma’s private home at Nkandla.

But yesterday morning, DA leader Mmusi Maimane said for the DA the issue was never about Zuma the person.

“The legal principle we are arguing is that the public protector’s remedial findings are binding unless reviewed by a court. If we fail, she will just be ignored by the next person.

“This is his fifth attempt to construct a parallel process. His actions are illegal and unconstitutional,” Maimane said.

The hearing is set down for Tuesday – a mere two days before Zuma intends opening parliament with his annual state of the nation address.
