A rare 1947 Nash Ambassador, the latest Jaguar and a 1914 Model T Ford  are just some of the transport treasures to be displayed at the Wizards on Wheels show at Port Rex Technical High School tomorrow.

Wizards on Wheels, now in its 11th year, is a chance for vintage car owners to show off their gleaming chariots from yesteryear as well as an opportunity for motor dealers to present their latest models.

The show, held on the school’s hockey fields, also features motorbikes, older model 4X4s, hot rods, muscle cars and stock cars as motoring clubs and car enthusiasts from all over the province converge on East London.

Wizards on Wheels will have a live band, food and trade stalls, a beer garden with rugby on a big screen and a flea market.

There will also be a “boot sale” for those wanting to buy or sell motoring-related items.

Border Street Rod and V8 Club chairman Johan Hattingh, who founded the event, said the fun day was “something special”, particularly for car lovers.

“The idea is for car clubs to operate together and to let people view these great cars,” he said.

Hattingh will be showing off his immaculate burgundy 1947 Nash Ambassador, which he rebuilt 10 years ago.

“Johan bought it in Bethulie. It was just a shell and all the parts were in crates,” said his wife Joyce Hattingh, who is the events co-ordinator of Wizards on Wheels.

“It has such a heritage to it.”

Hattingh will also be exhibiting his sleek orange 1969 Ford Capri V8 which he re-built from “bits and pieces”.

Other captivating vehicles on show tomorrow will be the iconic 1914 Model T Ford, the Dodge Brother (1925) and a 1967 E-type Jaguar owned by members of the Border Vintage Car Club.

Another draw-card will be a rare Willys Jeep from the late 1930s.

“It has been in a Selborne garage for over 20 years, but yesterday I helped the owner start it and he was so emotional when I got it going,” said Hattingh.

Besides the golden oldies, visitors to Wizards on Wheels can also get an eyeful of state-of-the art vehicles off the factory floor.

These include the new Jaguar XE, Mazda 2, as well as new Toyotas and Fords.

lWizards on Wheels will be open  from 10am to 3pm and tickets cost R20 for adults and R10 for pupils.
