Warriors must go for the kill

THE CHEVROLET Warriors have it all to play for in their final Ram Slam T20 Challenge clash against the woeful Nashua Cape Cobras today.

The Warriors visit Ram Slam strugglers, Cobras, in Cape Town for their must-win clash.

A bonus point victory for the Eastern Cape franchise is non-negotiable as they are still in with a chance of securing a home final providing the Lions lose against the already eliminated Dolphins in Johannesburg .

But should the Lions collect maximum points against Lance Klusener’s men , the Warriors will travel to Pretoria to face the Nashua Titans for a final berth if they win without a bonus point.

Following their abandoned clash with the Dolphins in Durban on Tuesday, Piet Botha’s men now have their fate in their hands.

Botha believes the opportunity for a home final is there for the taking.

“We know the Cobras won’t do us any favours and we wouldn’t expect them to.

“We are going to have to go flat out for five points and hope the Lions drop their game to get a home final.”

Botha added: “We are hoping for a home final at Buffalo Park but if things don’ t go our way it’s no train smash. We are used to playing around the country and we’ve been getting results, if we playing the semifinal away it’s no different.”

If all goes according to plan for Botha and his charges, the Warriors will also book themselves an automatic Champions League spot.

Late chargers in the competitions, the Titans, threw a spanner in the works with their eight-wicket win over the Chevrolet Knights in Kimberly on Tuesday night.

The win temporarily moved the Titans to the top of the log, at least until the Lions and the Warriors get their respective games under way tonight at 6pm.

According to weather forecasts, there is a 30% chance of showers in Cape Town today .

But the Cobras captain, Justin Ontong, issued his own ominous storm warning: “We are indebted to our fans after winning the Sunfoil Series and sharing the spoils in the Momentum One-Day Cup campaign.

“We want to finish the season with a bang for the sake of our home supporters. Obviously the Warriors should not expect any favours from us.”

Loosely translated, that means that the Cape Cobras will be motivated to remind the South African public of their status as one of the top- performing franchises in the country.

“We did not lack motivation or intensity at the start of this competition, having already grabbed silverware.

“If you ask any player what competition he would love to win, he would talk about the Ram Slam T20 Challenge as the ultimate prize,” the Cobras captain said.

Warriors’ squad is: Davy Jacobs (capt), Ashwell Prince, Colin Ingram, Christiaan Jonker, Samit Patel, Adrian McLaren, Wayne Parnell, Rusty Theron, Kelly Smuts, Ayabulela Gqamane, Lundi Mbane, Simon Harmer, Craig Thyssen.
