AmaRova in hot water after assault charge

TROUBLE continues to mount for Blackburn Rovers with news that the team will be charged with assaulting a match official on Saturday.

Speaking to the Daily Dispatch yesterday, Premier Soccer League general manager Luxolo September said the team together with its principal Dumisani Mcedani would face a PSL DC on Friday.

Said September: “Blackburn Rovers and their chairman Dumisani Mcedani have been charged with assaulting a referee and failing to protect a match official during their match against United FC at the Mthatha Stadium on April 27.”

The PSL’s Connie Motshumi had earlier said that: “We have received a report with regard to the match in question, the matter has been forwarded to the disciplinary committee.”

Mcedani refused to shed lighton the matter saying that he could not comment until he got paperwork from the league.

The news will no doubt come as a blow to Blackburn fans since it comes just days after seeing their team surrender a five- match unbeaten run in a 2-1 defeat in the selfsame match against United FC.

Last week, the National First Division side also found themselves on the wrong end of the law when found guilty on four charges by the PSL disciplinary committee.

Meanwhile, United FC insist today’s NFD game against Thanda Royal Zulu is more important for them then the Nedbank Cup semifinal against Kaizer Chiefs.

Coach Dan Malesela expects his charges to intensify their challenge to qualify for promotion by beating Thanda in a top-of-the-table clash at Moruleng Stadium near Sun City.

Log-leaders Thanda are now under pressure after dropping two crucial points in their 2-2 draw with struggling Dynamos in Limpopo at the weekend to move to 42 points.

The KwaZulu-Natal side, who are guided by Professor “Mlungisi” Ngubane, are now one point ahead of second- placed Mpumalanga Black Aces. The Ga-Rankuwa- based United are third on 37.
