Orient warriors turn the heat up

Ndongeni vows to kill off ‘Fire Ball’ at weigh-in

ATUSSLE erupted between lightweight boxers Xolisani Ndongeni and Grant Fourie during the weigh-in for tonight’s Premier Boxing League clash at East London’s Orient Theatre.

The pair shoved each other when they posed for photographs shortly after tipping the scales within the limit with Fourie weighing 60.6kg while Ndongeni was slightly bigger at 61,1kg.

Ndongeni, a high-spirited boxer who displays an easy outgoing and bubbly personality ahead of his fights, started the commotion when he put his head on Fourie’s head during a photo session.

But Fourie, who appeared animated throughout the ceremony, reacted angrily as he violently pushed Ndongeni, sparking organisers to separate them.

A smiling Ndongeni continued to provoke Fourie by making gestures and the Johannesburg fighter told him that he was still a young boy compared to him.

The Duncan Village-based Ndongeni, aged 22, is unbeaten in 10 fights and is still basking in the glory of his upset dethroning of Godfrey Nzimande to lift the SA junior-lightweight crown in April.

Fourie on the other hand is 30 years old and has fought 18 times winning 13 and losing four with one draw.

He comes from a fighting family background as his uncle was the popular SA heavyweight champion Pierre Fourie.

But his pursuit to preserve the family legacy has not been that successful resulting in him severing ties with trainer Harold Volbrecht to link up with Manny Fernandez.
