A difficult Africa T20 Cup campaign came to an end for Border in Potchefstroom on Sunday as KwaZulu-Natal Inland claimed their third win in a row against the Eastern Cape side to top the group.

Border finished third out of the four teams having won one match and lost two.

They opened their campaign with a close win over hosts North West, before Boland and KZN Inland comfortably beat them to snuff out their challenge.

“I think this was a really good experience for us, especially for the younger players,” Border coach Frank Plaatjes said.

“This is a good gauge to see where we are currently.

“We have a young team and it is full of potential, so I am happy that they got to test themselves against some of the best players in the country.”

Border's focus now switches to the 2015-16 season which gets under way next month.

Border will be aiming to use the knowledge gained from the Africa Cup to prepare them for the season. “We are building this season, we have identified the areas we need to work and we now have a month to prepare for the start of the season, so we will hopefully be ready by then,” said Plaatjes.

The team did enjoy some good moments in the competition which they can build on, while they were exposed in other areas which they can now work to improve ahead of the coming season.

“I think on the bowling side it wasn't so bad, we did well in patches, especially against North West, it was our batting that let us down a bit because we didn't build enough partnerships in all the games and lost too many wickets,” Border captain Jerry Nqolo said.

“We can build on these performances, it is going to be a long season and we can take the positives from this weekend and strengthen them while also learning and improving on the negatives.”

Nqolo was leading the team for the first time in this tournament and he will have got a good feel of what it takes to captain the side after these three games.

“I was comfortable leading the side, the guys made it easy for me, but I did feel quite a lot of pressure in all the games we played,” said Nqolo.

Border's season gets under way with a three-day cup match starting on October 15-17 and then will begin the defence of their one-day cup trophy on October 18.

Coincidentally, Border's first three- day cup and one-day cup match will be against the only team they beat in the Africa Cup, North West and will be in Potchefstroom. Having had a good feel for the ground after playing their opponents, Border will have a good idea of what to expect and what is required of them.
