In partnership with the South African Football Association, the fifth edition of the unique coaching course was officially launched on Monday, 16 November 2015.
Carling Black Label’s integrated approach to football will afford 49 coaches from the SAB League and the Carling League of Champions an opportunity to study for SAFA D and C coaching licenses as the they continue to inspire men to become champions.
Sidney Molepo and Tumo Katane who led Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in this year’s Carling Black Label Cup will also form part of the coaches to benefit from the Carling Black Label sponsored initiative.
SAFA’s senior technical instructors will again conduct the course over an 11-Day period from Thursday, November 19 until Sunday, November 29 at the SAB Cyril Ramaphosa World of Learning in Kyalami.
The coaches will be separated into two different groups of the SAFA D and C Level Coaching Licenses according to their different levels of coaching qualifications.
Carling Black Label’s General Manager, Mr Vijay Govindsamy emphasized the brand’s commitment to constantly finding innovative means of enabling people to make a difference in their communities.

The Coach the Coaches initiative will is no different as our joint partnership with SAFA will see us changing the lives of ordinary men to become champions of their community through a programme that will see them equipped with the necessary coaching skills” said Govindsamy.
Speaking on behalf of SAFA’s Technical Committee, SAFA’s Technical Director and former Bafana Bafana captain, Neil Tovey gave his full support of the Coach the coaches programme saying that the course continues to be instrumental in assisting SAFA’s Vision 2022 whereby it aims to train at least 10 000 coaches annually.
“SAFA’s vision of having qualified coaches at grassroots level is given solidarity by such coaching programmes. As the SAFA technical committee, it gives us great pleasure to partner with Carling Black Label, a powerful brand that will assist us in edging closer to vision 2022 and improve the standard of coaching at grassroots level” said Tovey.

- Since the programme was launched, more than 150 coaches have benefitted from it.
- Former Bafana Bafana and current Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane was first to lead the course in 2011.
- The 2014 Coach the Coach’s edition produced Galiel Penuel who qualified his team to the 2014 Nedbank Cup and recently led his team to qualify for the ABC Motsepe League.
- For the first time since inception, the 2015 edition will offer the SAFA D and C level coaching courses at the same time.
- Bafana Bafana head coach and assistant coaches, Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba and Thabo Senong made appearances during 2014 edition to share their coaching expertise.
