No complaints from Maritzburg

Maritzburg United coach Clive Barker had no excuses following his side's 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday. 

United had led since the 19th minute after a Kurt Lentjies penalty and looked good for the three points as 90 minutes approached.

But then the stoppage time board went up and the fourth official revealed that there would be seven additional minutes.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane equalised for Chiefs in the last of those added minutes, and Maritzburg fans would have been fuming as they scratched their heads in an attempt to figure out where so much stoppage time came from.

But Barker was having none of it.

"I've never moaned about a referee in my life, I'm not going to start moaning at my age," the 71-year-old said after the match.

"First half I thought we were magnificent, passing the ball and controlling the destiny of the match. Second half ... a little kick and run and gave away possession far too easily. We paid the price in the end."

Maritzburg remain bottom of the PSL with just one win from 11 all season, but Barker was still buoyed by Saturday's result.

"I would have taken a point before the match started," he said.

"But I thought the quality of play ... how you guys don't make special mention of Kurt Lentjies tonight ... he waltzed past them and they're a good team."

Maritzburg marketing and communications manager Brian Zuma confirmed to Sport24 on Monday that the club would not be seeking an explanation from the PSL over the stoppage time controversy.

"We've accepted the one point and are looking to be consistent with results going forward," he said.
