Whenever the Warriors play at Buffalo Park it tends to rain, and that was the case on Friday night when the RAM Slam T20 clash between the Eastern Cape franchise and the Dolphins was washed out.

It was the second Warriors match in a row to suffer being abandoned due to rain after their Momentum One-Day Cup game against the Lions last month was also abandoned after heavy rain fell during the match.

“We are always happy to come play in East London, but to have two games now where we don't get a result is a bit disappointing,” said Warriors coach Malibongwe Maketa.

Only 5.1 overs were possible in Friday night’s match after the Dolphins won the toss and elected to bat in gloomy conditions, reaching 35/0 when the rain came down and did not relent.

It robbed the Warriors of a chance to gain a much needed home win after they had won two of their opening five RAM Slam fixtures. Prior to the Dolphins match the Warriors were sitting in fourth position on the log, equal on points with the Lions, and with three home matches in a row the Warriors were aiming for a run of wins to make a move up the table.

However, it was not to be and the two points they gained Friday allowed them to move to 10 points, two behind the Cobras in third, who were defeated by the Titans on the same night.

The Lions, two points behind the Warriors at the time of writing, have a game in hand, and the battle for third place heats up.

The Titans are running away at the top of the table on 25 points while the Dolphins will be happy with the two points gained from Friday’s washout as they had lost their two previous matches and they now sit comfortably in second on 18 points.

“I think the rope’s getting tighter in the sense that we now have to win every game, but at least it brings a no-fear approach as we know exactly what we need to do,” said Maketa

The Warriors now play two more vital home games, the first on Saturday against the Titans in Port Elizabeth and then on Wednesday, December 2 at Buffalo Park against the Cobras, and then end the competition’s group stage with two away fixtures.

“It is nice to play the crunch games in front of our home fans,” Maketa concluded.
