City braced for knockout fight extravaganza

East London will be a hive of boxing activity topped by the tournament featuring two world-class bouts at Selborne Park Tennis Court tomorrow.

But the action for the whole weekend will start at the Orient Theatre tonight when four promoters team up to bring a double national title fight show.

The promoters Xaba Promotions and Events, Zikhali, Sakhisizwe and X Promotions will present an SA featherweight title rematch between Macbute Sinyabi and Oscar Chauke.

The duo has already clashed with Sinyabi prevailing in both encounters although his wins had big ifs and buts.

Sinyabi will be looking to put to rest the debate about who is the best between him and Chauke.

“I want to win my second national title and Chauke will not stand in my way,” Sinyabi said this week.

Bongani Silila will risk his SA junior-flyweight crown for the second time when he faces former title-holder Vuyani Kheswa while Thembelani Maphuma and Lindile Tshemese will clash for the vacant SA junior-bantamweight crown in a battle of left-handers.

Mfusi Maxhayi and Bonakele Bhikitsha will tangle in a junior-featherweight duel.

At Selborne, the tennis stadium will play host to a blockbuster show organised by Sijuta Promotions.

The main bout will see the return of former WBA featherweight champion and fight-starved Simpiwe Vetyeka taking on Colombian Rudolfo Puente in defence of his international belt.

Former Duncan Village-based boxing star Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni will square up against reigning SA junior-lightweight champion Jasper Seroka with the vacant IBO lightweight title at stake.

In other world-class bouts, Mzuvukile Magwaca will take on Argentinean Raul Elisio Medina in a bantamweight clash while Siyabonga Siyo will come up against Filipino Ronnie Tanallon in a mini-flyweight duel.

Magwaca, who is the WBA Pan-African champion has been promised a shot at the WBA interim title by March next year.

The unbeaten Cape Town-based boxer will face Medina who was initially scheduled to face Luzuko Siyo in Wild Coast Sun in Mzamba last month but withdrew from the fight when he was allegedly stabbed back home in Argentina.

Sijuta boss Andile Sidinile said he had received news that Medina has recovered from the stabbing.

The city’s fast-rising female fighter Leighandre “Baby Lee” Jegels will take on Argentina Johanna Rodriguez.

On Sunday, it will be the turn of former “world champions turned promoters” Welcome Ncita and Vuyani Bungu to present their second tournament at Mdantsane Indoor Centre.

The main bout will see Komga veteran Mbuyiseli Bester and Simthembele Luzipho of Mdantsane clash in a featherweight bout.

Sinethemba Magibisela will make a return to the ring after his devastating stoppage defeat by Nkosinathi Joyi when he takes on Lithemba Goja in a junior-flyweight clash.

Goja is fresh from a knockout defeat by Silila when he challenged for the SA crown this past August.

There will also be six other bouts.
