Border karting season came to a close in style at the weekend as the final placings for the season were sealed and titles claimed during the final round at the East London Grand Prix track.

Of the seven classes competed, two had already been sewn up before the final round, however five were still up for grabs making for some exciting karting action.

All the leaders coming into the final round however, did what they needed to in the end to take their respective titles without much trouble.

In the cadets class Kaylim Padayachee came into the final round with a slender lead over the chasing Jordan van der Merwe.

Padayachee was in imperious form on the day and took the win in all three heats to secure the title. Van der Merwe had to settle for second after two fourth places and a third on the day, while Bridgette Jackson with two third places and a fourth placing, rounded out the podium with third overall for the season.

Sebastian Smith claimed the overall win in the 60cc division with a good finish to the season, claiming three second-place drives in the three heats.

Port Elizabeth's Kenzo Barnard dominated the day taking the win in all heats, however his effort was not enough to overhaul fellow-PE driver Keisha Potgieter who's third, fourth and fifth place finishes in the heats was enough to seal second overall, with Barnard third. The Clubman's A class went according to script, as the top three going into the weekend maintained their places on the overall log.

Geoff Stephen with two third places and a second in the heats claimed the title, while Brent Strydom’s two second places and a third allowed him to stretch his lead over Jared de Kock in third on the overall log.

The day however belonged to Shannon Jackson, who has been racing on the national circuit this year and thus was unable to attend most of the local meetings.

She took the win in all three heats to end her season on a high.

The Clubman’s B division had already been decided in the previous round with Ashton Nell emerging as champ.

Nell took two second-place finishes and a third in the heats, while second overall Jeffrey Hall enjoyed a win in all three heats.

Paul Berry finished third overall for the season and on the day took two third places and a second.

Clubman’s C was the other class to already have a winner in Cuan Flusk and he took two heat wins to finish the season well.

Kevin Vosloo finished second overall taking a fifth, second and first-place finish in the three heats, while Melindre Marais finished third overall for the season and claimed two thirds and a fourth on the day. In the Super Rok class, the top-three stayed true to form throughout the entire final round.

Richard Clarke took the overall win for the season and finished with three heat wins, Craig Borges finished second overall and took three second-place finishes, while third went to Bradley Rowe.

Geoff Stephen then sealed the DD2 division title with a second- place finish and two heat wins.

Borges finished second overall and claimed a heat win, a sixth place and second-place finish on the day while Andre Botha with two third placings and a second, climbed into third overall for the season.
