Cricket SA confirmed on Monday that Aaron Phangiso was sanctioned for contravening the player's code of conduct but denied the Proteas spinner was dropped from the ODI squad for the upcoming series against England as a result.

The 31-year-old Highveld Lions player, who has played 16 ODIs and nine T20s matches for South Africa, was reportedly expelled from a flight after he was allegedly found to be in an intoxicated state, according to .

The Afrikaans newspaper reported that Phangiso allegedly offended flight personnel and fellow passengers on the Proteas’ way back from India on October 26 following South Africa’s ODI series win in the subcontinent.

CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat told the paper that Phangiso pleaded guilty and was sanctioned. Spokesperson Altaaf Kazi said CSA will not comment on player’s sanctions. “It’s a matter between the player and the organisation.” He said Phangiso was sanctioned in late November.

Kazi added that it will be incorrect for anyone to assume Phangiso’s punishment was to exclude him from the ODI squad.

Phangiso’s last ODI match for the Proteas was against India in the fourth match on October 22.
