Chippa urged to ‘shape up’

Chippa United coach Dan “Dance” Malesela said his players needed to “shape up” after their 1-0 loss against Mpumalanga Black Aces in a Premier Soccer League game at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday.

It was Chippa’s second defeat this year under the leadership of Malesela, who took over from Roger Sikhakhane late last year.

The Chilli Boys’ away record does not look good. The team have only managed to secure two wins out of seven away matches this season.

Malesela’s troops need to get their ducks in a row soon, as they are faced with another tough encounter this week.

The Port Elizabeth-based club play log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria tomorrow.

Former Sundowns and Orlando Pirates player Malesela said Chippa lost the game in the first half. “Missed chances could have changed the end result of the game, but you know, this is our usual story. We had to open ourselves up. They could have scored I don’t know how many times in the second half because we had to open up.

“I am looking at some individuals – whether they really deserve to be here or not.

“To be honest, we need to shape up. We can’t let so many tactical mistakes happen and expect to win the game.”

Meanwhile, Aces coach Muhsin Ertugral said he was disappointed with his side’s performance on the day even though they won the game.

“Chippa is a team who can play football, but not directly at the goal. We had to control them in a certain defensive pattern,” Ertugral said.

“We changed the system in the second half and they gave us a bit of trouble.

“In the the end, you must be happy with the points – but I’m not happy with the style.”
