Chippa aim for priceless Arrows scalp

Chippa United are back at their happy hunting ground – the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday – when they host red-hot Golden Arrows to begin what will be a tough final three weeks of the season for the Eastern Cape outfit.

Chilli Boys assistant coach Mbuyiselo Sambu, said it was a good feeling coming back to East London where the club had previously enjoyed unprecedented support from locals.

Sambu believes it is this support that will inspire them to much-needed victory if Chippa are to improve their chances of finishing in the top-eight in what would be a first for the club in their PSL history.

It will be paramount for Chippa to go for nothing less than three points, said Sambu, especially against a side that was also vying for a finish in the top half of the league standings.

If Arrows, who are currently ninth on 36 points and trailing seventh-placed Chippa by two points, manage to snatch a victory, they will be inside the top-eight.

Chippa will have two tough encounters to close out the season with; first they will be at home to Orlando Pirates in Port Elizabeth next weekend, before an away game against Kaizer Chiefs.

The 32-year-old Sambu – a former Chilli Boy himself – did however warn against being overconfident against Abafana Bes’thende, who have been running riot in recent weeks with the help of Hellings Mhango.

The Malawian-born Mhango has netted five times in the previous two matches for Arrows, both of them victories.

Chippa’s record defensively has been second-worst in the league, with 39 goals conceded and it will be interesting to see how they deal with on-form Mhango.

However, offensively, Arrows have been firing blanks themselves, until Mhango hit a purple patch.
