Rivals scrum down for some real fiery action

Massive school rugby derbies are on the cards this weekend as Border teams come face-to-face with some of their fiercest rivals.

The pick of the weekend’s action should be the huge derby reunion clash between Dale College and Queen’s College in King William’s Town, which sees two of Border’s form teams and oldest rivals go head-to-head.

Another monster clash will be going down in Bloemfontein as Selborne College travel up for their annual meeting with Grey College. This match-up will be another tough encounter for Selborne but they will be aiming to use the momentum gained in their recent heavy win over Stirling.

Selborne have lost to two of their biggest rivals in Queen’s and Dale so far this season, but their overall record of seven wins, two draws and two losses prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Their 100-14 victory over a brave Stirling side, in which Selborne ran in 16 tries, including a hat-trick from scrumhalf James Bruce, also showed that their attack is in sharp focus.

Grey however, also come into the match off a massive win, a 50-23 demolition job of Affies in Pretoria. Affies had only lost one game, against the unbeaten Paarl Boys team up to that point, and were expected to challenge the unbeaten Grey side, however Grey reaffirmed their status as possibly the best school rugby side on the continent and will be full of confidence at home.

Stirling will themselves be involved in a big local derby this weekend as they face rivals Hudson Park at Stirling.

Stirling have also enjoyed solid wins over teams such as Graeme College, Port Rex and Cambridge and they will want to claim another good win.

Hudson will however, be a very tough opponent and head into the match with a lot of confidence after thumping Pearson 59-10 this past weekend.

Cambridge High School will also be in action against St Andrews College this weekend.

Cambridge have not had the best of seasons but managed a morale-boosting 27-15 win against Port Rex last weekend and will look to take that momentum into what promises to be a tough game against St Andrews.
