Premier Soccer League champions (PSL) Mamelodi Sundowns’ long-term deal with sports apparel company Puma is believed to be worth twice as much as the Chloorkop-based club’s previous sponsorship contract with Nike.

Insiders at Chloorkop told Tiso Blackstar Digital that the “extremely lucrative deal” dwarfs their previous agreement and it has two components — a financial and a kit supplier element.

“This deal is great for the club because we will receive a lucrative amount of money on one side‚ and it will also service our supplier needs‚’ the insider said.

“The deal will also provide bonuses for winning matches‚ cup competitions etc. This deal pretty much makes us one of Pumas’ flagship clubs in the world and that elite list includes English Premier League club Arsenal and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.”

The German sportswear company confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday that the new commercial partnership with the PSL champions represents the biggest football kit deal in Puma South Africa and Sundowns football history.

“Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club is proud to be partnering with a world leader in the technical sponsor space. This partnership marks the start of the next chapter in the Mamelodi Sundowns history.

“This past season’s achievement of our unequalled 7th PSL title with a record breaking 71 points‚ is hopefully the start of even greater things. Having a partner like Puma to join us on this quest will undoubtedly be a great catalyst” said Sundowns general manager Sizwe Nzimande.

In addition to producing the playing and training kit for all Mamelodi Sundowns teams‚ PUMA has acquired wide-ranging licensing rights to develop other Mamelodi Sundowns branded merchandise. — Tiso Black Star Group Digital
