Border’s best school rugby players get down to business today as the Border U18 Coca-Cola Craven Week side kick-off their campaign against the Blue Bulls at Kearsney College in Durban.

The two sides will compete in the main game of the day and both sides will be gunning for the perfect start to the competition.

“I believe we can do the job against a very strong Bulls team in what is a tough first round fixture,” said Border coach Anton Jacobs.

“We are expecting a physical confrontation against them and I have said to the guys that the first 25 minutes is extremely important for us to get a good start and then build on that over the game.”

Border have had a hard week of training to prepare and enjoyed another two sessions yesterday to fine-tune themselves ahead of today’s clash.

“Training last week went very well. We got through everything that we needed to and the guys are looking good and sharp,” said Jacobs.

“We got in some good final sessions today where we went over our defence in the morning and looked at our attack in the evening session, so I feel we are ready.”

Depending on the Bulls result Border may find themselves up against one of the rugby weeks’ favourites in their second clash, as a win should draw them against a strong opposition, while a loss should see them get an easier second game.

“This is a very talented team. They have all the skills needed to go far in this competition and if we can get off to a good start it will give us confidence going into the rest of the week,” said Jacobs.

“This team can challenge any team at this week and we will be ready for whatever comes after this game.”

Yesterday, the Border Academy side got their Academy rugby week off to very good start with a confident 28-13 win over Griquas Country Districts.

They scored four tries to Griquas CD one, with scrumhalf Sinesipho Dlongodlongo, outside centre Sibahle Kuhlane and right wing Siphamandla Matsinya (2) all crossing the whitewash while flyhalf Keith Kroutz slotted all four conversions.

Eighthman Geoffrey Ross was named man-of-the-match to seal a perfect win, and now the team will wait to see who their next match will be against.

Today, the Border CD Academy side takes on the Pumas CD in the day’s first game, after which televised Craven Week clashes see the Border CD Craven Week team play the Limpopo Blue Bulls at 9.20am and Border against the Blue Bulls at 3.10pm, both on SuperSport 1.
