Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has set the record straight with regards to Joseph Molangoane and Thamsanqa Sangweni’s possible exit from his team.

“The Molangoane issue was not handled properly. I blame the player and Kaizer Chiefs,” said Mpengesi.

“After he scored against Orlando Pirates last season it seemed as if Chiefs approached him.

“Molangoane was not honest with Chiefs and did not tell them that he still has a contract with Chippa United.

“We have an option of two years which he had already signed with the team.”

According to Mpengesi, Chippa coach Dan Malesela has made a decision that he does not want Molangoane in his team this season.

“Now we told Chiefs to pay a specific fee for the player because we too had bought Molangoane from Pirates.

“Bobby is giving us the runaround because it seems as if he likes free agents.

“But what we will not do is to let the player go free of charge.”

Mpengesi is adamant that Sangweni is going nowhere.

“Sangweni has spoken out openly to the media and said he does not want to leave Chippa United. He’s not going anywhere.

“Sangweni is a type of player that I myself will fight for not to leave the team because he is our pillar. I can release other players but not Sangweni and Xola Mlambo,” he said.

l Moeneeb Josephs’ longevity in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) is set to be tested when Bidvest Wits complete the signing of Darren Keet this week.

Keet‚ a free agent after leaving Belgian side KV Kortrijk at the end of last season‚ is set to return to Wits after five years spent in Europe‚ the Dispatch understands.

Josephs has been the undisputed number one at Wits for the past three seasons after making the switch from Orlando Pirates‚ where he had lost his place to the late Senzo Meyiwa.

The 36-year-old‚ a veteran of 455 starts in the PSL‚ could face a challenge in making 500 with the arrival of Keet. — Additional reporting by Nick Said
