Border Bulldogs loosehead prop Blake Kyd will lead the team when they take on Free State at the Buffalo City Stadium tomorrow night, not Siya Mdaka, who has been the captain all season.

This is but one of the changes effected in the Border starting 15 for tomorrow night’s encounter, which will be their last match for the Currie Cup qualifiers 2016.

Kyd has been one of few consistent members of the Border starting lineup in 2016 but was far from the captaincy, with Mdaka the preferred leader.

But this this time Kyd will lead a team with four changes in the starting 15.

In at tight-head prop is Siyamthanda Ngande, who replaces the regular choice for that position, Johannes Jonker.

Hendri Storm will start at number five ahead of Wandile Putuma.

This is a good opportunity for the 21-year-old Storm to showcase what he can offer.

He is the youngest Border player on the day in the first 15 and all eyes will be on him.

Fans will be hoping to see the Bulldogs’ youngest player in the overall team squad, Johannes Janse van Rensburg, who starts from the bench, given a run to gather much needed experience.

Mdaka has made way for Nkosikhona Nofuma at number seven, while Siphosethu Tom got the nod to start at centre.

Out-of-favour flyhalf Oliver Zono also makes a comeback, but starts on the bench.

Of the new players Kyd said: “I believe they will bring some spark into the team because they are hungry to prove themselves.”

Kyd said they were going into the match with zeal to win although there was nothing to play for after they failed to qualify for the Premier Division.

Kyd said: “We are motivated and it will be payback time because we lost against Free State in a friendly just before the start of the season.”

Border will play in the First Division launching next month.

Border squad:

Blake Kyd; Ludwe Booi, Siya Ngande, Lindokuhle Welemu, Hendri Storm; Onke Dubase, Nkosikhona Nofuma; Athenkosi Manentsa, Sinovuyo Nyoka, Masixole Banda, Makazole Mapimpi, Lunga Dumezweni, Sethu Tom, Siphosenkosi Nofemele and Sonwabiso Mqalo.

Replacements:
