Border women, in action against Western Province, is confident of taking the provincial laurels again.
The Border Women are well on course to win the Inter-provincial A competition for the fourth time on the trot.

This they affirmed by beating their Blue Bulls counterparts with a convincing 19-0 drubbing at the weekend.

Through this victory, Border have since booked themselves a place in the competition’s final.

But first, they will have to collide with Eastern Province Women next Saturday, an encounter that will be just for formality.

Border currently tops the logstandings, two points ahead of second-placed Western Province and four ahead of Bulls, who are in third spot.

Border will meet either Bulls or Province, who still have to play each other in the finals.

But a win for Border against EP will be vital as it will secure them rights to host the final.

Border head coach Malibongwe “Shoes” Kradu was pleased with his charges for reaching the final.

The victory against Bulls was paramount, he said, especially after Border suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Western Province.

“I am happy that we bounced back from the Western Province defeat,” said Kradu.

“What is even more exciting is that we have booked our place in the final, therefore in pole position to defend our title.

“We went to Pretoria under immense pressure following the loss against Western Province and pulled out all the stops for a convincing victory.”

The East London-based Border Women, on their way to securing a place in the final, started off their campaign with a 72-3 victory over SWD Eagle early last month.

They then went on to beat KZN by 27-3, before losing 7-5 to Province and then defeating the Bulls.

Border should cruise to victory in the final pool round match against EP. However, there can never be guarantees for a derby clash, although Border are streets ahead of EP.

Kradu said Border was not in the business of underestimating their opponents and would be fit and ready to meet EP.

Satisfied with how their campaign had gone so far, Kradu said reaching the final and defending their title was what mattered most.

“We have had a good season but we need to win the title and prove to the rest of South Africa that Border is the breeding ground for rugby talent,” said Kradu.
