Macman keen on ring return

Macbute Sinyabi is not going anywhere. At least not now. That is the word coming from his camp just a few weeks after his humiliating defeat to four-fight novice Azinga Fuzile when he surrendered his SA featherweight title.

Having dismissed Fuzile as a school kid, the 33-fight veteran was embarrassed as he was dropped three times and was saved by the bell in the last round of a bout which he lost by a wide unanimous decision.

Calls for him to hang up his gloves reached a crescendo especially as he has been showing signs of slippage in his latest bouts.

But after meeting with his promoter Ayanda Matiti who organised the fight under his Xaba Promotions and Events banner, Sinyabi not only revealed that he wanted to continue fighting but even demanded a rematch against Fuzile.

Matiti confirmed that he and Sinyabi had a meeting where the boxer admitted that he had not been himself during the fight.

“He said he felt stiff and could not let his hands go,” Matiti said.

“He even requested me to organise a rematch saying that he wanted to prove that he was not yet done in the ring.”

Sinyabi and Matiti had planned before the Fuzile fight to wind down the veteran’s career this financial year with at least two bouts before he signs off with a farewell bout in March.

“We have always planned for Mabhuti to retire at the end of this financial year so the defeat by Fuzile did not entirely scupper our plans,” Matiti said.

Sinyabi told the Dispatch that he still wanted to defend his IBO Intercontinental crown.

On the rematch against Fuzile, Matiti admitted that it would be impossible as Boxing SA rules do not cater for an immediate rematch.
