A solid batting foundation will be key for the Warriors in their Sunfoil Series clash against the BuildNat Cape Cobras at Newlands, Cape Town, this morning.
Warriors openers Colin Ackermann and Edward Moore will be looking to continue their terrific form at the top of the order, which sees them topping the scoring charts after the opening two games.
Ackermann, largely thanks to the 136 he scored in the first innings of the Warriors win over the Titans in Port Elizabeth last week leads the way on 237 runs, while Moore has been very consistent, notching three half centuries in four innings so far, which puts him on 224 runs overall.
“Myself and Colin were at school together at Grey PE so we have known each other for a long time,” said Moore.
“We have played together at EP and are now doing well with the Warriors and we want to keep contributing positively to the team.”
Moore however holds the best average in the competition so far of 74.66 and he will be aiming to continue with his prolific form.
“I want to continue batting well and help the Warriors get another win under the belt,” said Moore.
The Warriors’ six-wicket win over the Titans was the perfect response to their disappointing opening match loss against the Dolphins and they will want to build on that against the Cobras as they head into the match with confidence.
“We played against a really good line up last weekend and the team took a lot of confidence from that result, so we are looking forward to the Cobras challenge and we are confident we can come out on top,” said Moore.
The Cobras however will be desperate for a win as they sit rock bottom of the Sunfoil Series table after two thumping away losses against the Lions and the Knights respectively and they will want to pick up the pieces in their first home match of the season.
The Cobras’ main concern is their batting, which in four innings has not been able to reach 300 runs yet, and this can be targeted by the Warriors bowling attack.
“It’s been a tough start, but what we’re looking to do is to draw on is the performances of the young players,” Cobras coach Paul Adams said.
“We now need some of the senior guys to step up and support the younger players, hopefully that will happen from here forward.”
Today's match gets under way at 10am.
