Hudson into Schools T20 semi's

It was a day to remember for Hudson Park High School as they qualified for the semifinals of the 2017 Coca Cola Schools T20 Challenge in Stellenbosch to be played on Sunday morning.

Hudson Park, representing the Coastal Focus Schools, recovered from their opening round loss on Friday to claim to bonus point wins over Titans reps HS Centurion and Knights representatives St Andrews Bloemfontein to finish top of pool B.

St Andrews all-rounder Pheku Moletsane, who had a good match taking 2/11 off four overs, then finished unbeaten on 22 with the bat, while no other batsman reached double figures.

“Our bowling has been absolutely superb, to bowl two of the top sides in the country out for less than 90 says a lot for our bowling attack,” claimed Alers.

“I think it was important to get the two bonus point wins to top the pool because across in the other pool you have St Stithians who are looking to become the first school in history to win this competition three times and they are always going to be tough.”

“They are ranked number one in the country, are unbeaten this year and we want to play them in the final.”

Hudson's Niemand will be vitally important to their success in tomorrow's final day.

He followed up his 1/16 in four overs and 57-ball 64 against Glenwood on day one, with 3/9 in four overs and a 34-ball 53 with the bat against Centurion and then 2/12 in two overs and a 17-ball 21 against St Andrews to continue his superb form.

“He's been absolutely superb, he's got two man of the match awards from the first two matches and in this match he batted well before going out and then came on with the ball and broke the camel's back early, so he has been brilliant,” said Alers.

The other semifinal will be between the unbeaten Lions reps St Stithians and St Andrews.

East London's other team in the competition, Warriors representatives Selborne College unfortunately lost their final game against St Stithians, which put them out of semi contention.

That was mainly due to the brilliance of their opening batsman Matthew Erasmus who hammered a superb 75-ball 105 that deservedly earned him the Coca Cola Player of the day award for day two.

However all is not lost for Selborne as due to finishing third in pool A they will play Centurion who finished third in pool B in the Plate final on Sunday morning.

It will be a chance for Selborne to finish the tournament on a high and they will be aiming to put in a big performance to end their campaign on.
