South Africa will welcome Botswana in the 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier Southern Zone second-leg match at the Moruleng Stadium today. Kick-off is at 3pm.
Bafana Bafana are brimming with confidence following their 2-0 victory over Botswana in the first-leg match in Francistown last weekend.
Ryan Moon and Gift Motupa found the back of the net for the visitors, who recorded a convincing win at the Francistown Sports Complex.
South Africa are hoping to make their return to the Chan finals after failing to qualify for last year's tournament which was hosted by Rwanda.
Bafana reached the quarterfinals in the 2011 Chan competition in Sudan, before failing to qualify for the knockout stages as tournament hosts in 2014.
Stuart Baxter, the Bafana head coach, says he will make changes to his starting line-up but their main target is record another victory over the Zebras.
“We are going to stay committed to our rationale but also get some young players on the field and at the same time try to win the game‚" the British tactician said.
"That’s what we are going to do and we will change the way we want to play as well. We are going to challenge the squad by playing in a different way and see how it goes.
"It does not mean that we don’t care about the result. We want to win and go through to the next round because there are a few of these lads here who see an opportunity of playing in more national fixtures.”
Meanwhile, Botswana will be seeking redemption when they face their neighbors in Moruleng where they lost 2-0 to Bafana in the 2017 CosafaCup earlier this month.
The Zebras have now tasted two back-to-back defeats against Bafana this month and they are still searching for their first ever win over South Africa in regulation time.
Having failed to qualify for the Chan finals since the inception of the tournament in 2009, Botswana will be hoping to cause an upset by overcoming a 2-0 deficit today (sat).
However, Major David Bright, the Botswana head coach, is concerned about his side's defence and he is already looking beyond the second-leg clash with Bafana.
"We lacked experience at the back (in the first-leg). We allowed two silly goals and our midfield also struggled, “Bright said.
"We will get there. I believe we need experienced players to beef up our squad to compete."
Either Zambia or Swaziland will take on the winner on aggregate between South Africa and Botswana in the next qualifying round. — SuperSport
