Kaizer Chiefs fans in the province will have the chance to run the rule over the team’s new signings first-hand when the Glamour Boys take on Chippa United at Sisa Dukashe on Saturday.

Both sides have procured a number of new high-profile players and Saturday’s Premiers Cup encounter will be the perfect opportunity for the likes of Dumisani Zuma and Abel Mabaso to show off their talents for their respective teams.

Dumisani Zuma who is a Bloemfontein Celtic striker comes with a big reputation and Chiefs fans will be pleased to see him shine against Chippa.

Chiefs’ communications manager Vina Maphosa said coach Steve Komphela was keen to get the side fit and ready for the season ahead.

“We can talk about performance when we start with the games of the PSL but now it’s to make sure that we are at the right level of preparation. Even the players will be using this game to convince the coach that he was not wrong when he signed them.

“The only reason we agreed to play this game was because Chippa play the kind of football that can test you as a team. They are very aggressive on the field and they play “a very high impact game”.

Maphosa also said that Komphela will use a different formation and game plan from the one chosen for the Black Label Cup.

“In East London the supporters won’t be in charge so Steve will decide himself because this game is a rehearsal for the league. Next week we are playing MTN 8 which tells you he will be still be testing a few things during this game,” said Maphosa.

Chippa spokesman Luthando Zibeko said Chilli Boys two main objectives going in to this game.

“We want achieve two things which are preparing properly for the season and to ensure that the trophy remains in the province. As you know we have brought in a couple of players and we tried different combinations. This coming Saturday is massive game for the province and team.”

One of the new recruits to the PE side is former Mamelodi Sundowns player Abel Mabaso.

The signing of Mabaso, who joined Chilli Boys yesterday on a two-year deal, brings to 13 the number of new recruits at the side..

On the ongoing preseason preps, Zibeko said coach Dan Malesela was satisfied with the team’s recent camp in KwaZulu-Natal. “We spent two weeks in Durban where we played Mthatha Bucks, Golden Arrows and Royal Eagles but more work is still awaiting the team here in PE.”

Chiefs are expected in the city on Friday, while Chippa arrive tomorrow.
