Andiswe Ndesi from Mdantsane, who led team Eastern Cape in Germany during a female soccer exchange programme between the Western European powerhouse and provincial government, observed how well women’s football was treated in that country.

Ndesi said there’s was no difference between male and female sports as compared to South Africa where female athletes don’t get the same recognition as their male counterparts.

The main purpose of the entire trip was to expose female soccer players to sport development trends and to also compete at an international platform.

The exchange programme emanated from a partnership between the provincial government and the German Federal State of Lower Saxony.

It focused on international voluntary service sports exchange programmes between the Landessportbund Niedersachsen and the provincial Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture.

City Lads captain, Ndesi, said female soccer is not getting the support it deserves and every aspect of development in the sport favoured male players.
