Mthatha Bucks coach Ian Palmer plans to fix the mistakes his side made during their goalless draw against Richards Bay FC at Umhlathuze Sports Complex over the weekend.
Palmer said his boys did very well considering the amount of chances they had.
“That game reminded me of the match against Tukkies, where we should have conceded three times.
“We had three glorious chances, that included one on ones that we couldn’t finish, and those mistakes will haunt us in the future if we don’t rectify them now.”
Palmer said Amatholamnyama tried to come back in the last 20 minutes in search for a goal.
“We could have snatched a goal, you know how the sport is ...you can have all the possession in the world but if you don’t use your chances you can’t win.”
He said the absence of his key players, like Kangwa Chileshe and Bongani Kama, who were both out nursing injuries, was another issue for the team.
“They didn’t recover in time for the game. Even though defensively we were solid, which was our weak point last season, we could not finish this time round.
“Last year we never had depth in defence, but this year we have more good players in defence.
“So even if I bring in another player during a game, you can’t see the different because they are all good at what they do.”
Palmer said he was mostly concerned about this finishing when they play away, but insisted that they will fix that issue.
“When you play away what you want is to take home points. You don’t want to concede any goals and you want to steal three points by winning.
“And this was one of those games where we could steal three points.
“I am not complaining about the one point you know, but as long as we don’t lose at home. This was a game we could have stolen maximum points.
“You can see that they are starting to play well with each other. If you look at Shane Thompson the right-back, now he is expressing himself very well and does well on his one on ones.
“We actually had a good game even though we didn’t win.”
He said he aimed to ensure that they keep on playing with a high tempo and finishing their chances.
“Since we are playing at home this weekend, where we seem not to have a problem finishing at home and I hope that home form still continues.
“Upfront it’s still very difficult to say who are the combinations that are there, but Kangwa Chileshe is our main guy. We are also trying to get another striker on board and hopefully by tomorrow or Wednesday we’ll know whether that player is interested in joining us.”
