It was a disastrous start to the fourth leg of the Africa Cup T20 competition for hosts Border, as their opening match against Boland was washed out at Buffalo Park on Friday night.
Only four overs were possible in the match with Border sending in Boland to bat with them then reaching 28/0, with Pieter Malan unbeaten on 18 leading the charge.
Last year it was rain that spoiled the part as it washed out two days of the Africa Cup, meaning the four sides had to be decided by drawing lots.
This is now a distinct possibility once again this year as only the first match of day one was possible with Kwa Zulu-Natal Inland managing a good win over Zimbabwe.
Each team will need to play at least one game each if they want to decide the leg by log positions, which means that Border and Boland will need to be able to finish one of their next two matches over the weekend at the very least.
Otherwise we could see a repeat of last year where Zimbabwe were the lucky team to progress of surviving the lucky draw.
In the KZN Inland v Zimbabwe match, Zimbabwe betted first and scored 165/7 largely thanks to an impressive 81 off 55 balls from Timycen Maruma, with him cracking nine fours and two sixes.
Boland's bowling effort was led by young slow left armer Nduduzo Mfoza who claimed a fantastic three wickets for eight runs off just two overs.
A brilliant 110 run opening partnership between Sarel Erwee (80) and Lefa Mosena (46) then set Boland on their way to victory, however a late innings stumble that saw them lose seven wickets for 56 runs, which meant they made it much closer than they would have liked, winning by three wickets in the end.
If the rain relents the action will resume on Saturday morning with KZN Inland up against Boland, followed by Border taking on Zimbabwe at 1pm, with both games televised live on SuperSport 12.
