It’s full on combat for Bulldogs

The Border Bulldogs will be gunning to end their home matches for the year with a bang when they take on the visiting Windhoek Draft Welwitschias in their Currie Cup First Division clash at the BCM Stadium this afternoon.

It will be the Bulldogs’ final home match of the season, as despite the fact that they still have a mathematical chance of making it into the top four, if results go their way over their final two games, they are too far off the pace to make the top two spots to be able to host a semifinal.

The team will thus be looking to give their fans something to cheer and pick up their second win of the competition.

“We want to give the fans something to smile about, it is our last game at home this season and we want to end off on a high here,” Bulldogs coach David Dobela said.

“The Welwitschias are a good team, they have had a much improved season from previous years and they have pushed some of the big teams close so it will be a tough match.”

Six changes have been made to the starting XV that narrowly lost against the Leopards last weekend, with three changes each in both the forward pack and backline.

“We only have one injury with Yanga Xakalashe out, so Ngande who was on the bench comes in at prop,” Dobela explained.

“We are welcoming two of our regulars back from injury.

“Sonwabiso Mqalo returns to fullback and Onke Dubase, who was playing really well before he was injured comes back in at flank.

“The other changes were all rotational, we wanted to give Lunga and Nofuma a run, while Lundi and Billy have been playing a lot of rugby lately so Lundi will play off the bench and Billy gets a well- deserved rest.

“We have also brought in Siyasanga Ncanywa after he played off the bench last week and started at fullback the week before,” he said.

The Welwitschias sit just one place above the second from bottom Bulldogs on 11 points, two points ahead of the hosts, so they will be eager to stay in front while the Bulldogs will want to move up another spot on the log.

The match will kick-off at 3.30pm at Buffalo Metro City stadium.
