Koopman fired up for Border push

Border will be gunning to come away from Kimberley with two wins as they take on Northern Cape in their Sunfoil 3-Day Cup and CSA Provincial One-Day Cup matches over the next four days.

Border start with the three-day encounter today and will be hoping for a good start that will set them on their way to a positive result.

“This is what we are here for, we are here to win the three-day and the one-day games and that is what we want to come away with against Northern Cape,” admitted Border captain Gionne Koopman.

“It is a different opposition so we have different plans for them, the conditions are going to be very hot compared to home where it is a bit cooler, but we have played here before so we know what to expect.”

The Border team is in terrific form this season led by the explosive batting of Marco Marais who has absolutely lit up the three-day and one-day competitions so far and he will be eager to continue his incredible form.

Bradley Williams, fresh off scoring his maiden first-class century, will also want to keep impressing and coming off a record partnership with Marais in the last match against Eastern Province they will want to pick up where they left off.

“That partnership gave all of us as batters a lot of confidence,” claimed Koopman.

“But I know them as individuals and they have already looked at it as a milestone, but they have now put that past them and know they have to start again from zero in the match.”

Overall the Border team has been performing well on all fronts and sit well placed on their respective three-day and one-day logs.

With them up against a struggling Northern Cape side it is the perfect opportunity to put in a strong performance and continue their good form.

“We are very confident for the match, our batters are in really good form and our bowlers are also doing well, so we are really excited to get back on the field,” said Koopman.

“But at the same time we know that every game is different, so we will take it one session at a time and one day at a time and see how it goes.

“We don't take any opposition for granted and we know that Northern Cape is going to be tough at home.”

Although the squad from their last games against EP is unchanged, the team will have a few changes in the playing sides with Aya Gqamane, who featured in both games, and Jason Niemand who played in the one-dayer, on Warriors and SA U19 duty respectively.
