North End Local Football Association deputy president and youth director, Vuyo Zamdodla, said it’s been a very good year for the association .

“East London Central is strong and vibrant and we are doing the job of assisting the community, giving youth something to live for and not only to play football but to also have meaning in their lives.”

EL Central has an ongoing dispute with SA Football Association Buffalo City after they were disbanded as a legitimate football association by SAFA BCM. The matter has since been elevated to the national level where it was decided that they should be reinstated but that is yet to happen.

“Regardless of what the case may be maybe we are going to continue to do our work for the community and function as an LFA.

“We hope and we pray and we have expectations that we can be part of the bigger fold and if that doesn’t happen, we will continue with our football.

“We said what we wanted to say and we’ve put our case for years, but we are not going to stand back and wait to see what happens,” Zamdodla said.

EL Central president Gavin van Rooyen said they were proud of the accolades they had achieved in the past five years and they would continue to work even harder to ensure they produce quality players.

“Our focus has been on football development and I think today’s event speaks volumes of what we’ve been striving for all along. I want to say well done to all the winners and it’s the first year we have four accomplishments and the parents are getting involved and that’s very encouraging to us.

The highlight of the day were special achievement award that went to exceptional players at EL Central LFA. The first special award went to Keaviano Francis who is at the U14 SAFA/Transnet School of Excellence. The second award went to Chloe Rulf who recently represented team Buffalo City Metro U19 female team in the Steve Vukile Tshwete Games that concluded on Friday. While Juliano Botha from Pefferville took the third award for his stunning run this season, also having been selected to play in Barca Tournament in Spain.
