The Border U19 team have a great chance to gain promotion to the competition A division when they take on North West today in a massive B division tussle that should decide the group winners in the South African U19 interprovincial competition at the East London Golf Club.
North West and Border are both unbeaten going into today’s fourth day of play and the winner of this matchup should be able to go on and seal the B division on day five.
Border had taken the lead on day two, following up their two wins on the first day, with another two wins to move to the top of the log on eight points.
North West however retook the lead yesterday after they had a bye on Tuesday, to take their tally to four wins out of four, and thus equal on points with them only ahead of Border on matches won.
On day one Border beat both Mpumalanga and Eastern Province.
Border and Mpumalanga were 2-all after the foursomes, but Logan Roos, Jaden Joubert, Benjamin Brent, Tristan Naude and Daniel van Seumeren stepped it up in the singles to deliver a 7-5 win.
Against EP the team trailed 1½-2½ heading into the singles, but once again, used their local knowledge well to edge out Eastern Province 6½-5½ with victories from Roos, Joubert, Brent, Damian Osner and Van Seumeren.
On day two Border continued their good form to claim solid wins over Free State and Northern Cape.
The home side made an early charge to lead both teams 3-1 in the foursomes and drove their early advantage home to resounding victories.
Roos, Brent, Naude and Osner gathered double rewards, while Nicholas Naidoo defeated Tshepo Miya from Free State 2-up for an 8-4 triumph.
Van Seumeren eliminated Joshua Edwards 4 and 3, Sinokholo Thumani defeated Arno Esterhuysen 1-up and Joubert dispatched Remon Rabie
1-up to produce a 10-2 result against North West. Border will now hope the rest day did not rob them of their momentum and that they are refreshed and ready for the big clash with North West.
In the A division Central Gauteng took advantage of Ekurhuleni and WP having a bye yesterday, to move to the top of the table.
Today and tomorrow are the final two days of the IPT and a thrilling conclusion should be on the cards for both divisions.
