ABC Motsepe League top guns Future Tigers will go to war without their commander-in-chief following his abrupt exit from last season’s runners-up bench.
As Tigers gear up to face arch- rivals EC Bees the club told the Daily Dispatch that Asanda Mvalo was no longer mentoring the Ginsberg-based outfit, following his resignation which was accepted by the club’s management yesterday.
“After the game against Lion City the coach was not okay, and last weekend the boys went away to Bizana to play Pondo Chiefs and he was not there. After that game coach Mvalo asked for a meeting, where he told us that he felt like the boys were sabotaging him and were no longer playing for him,” said club director Zuko Ngcwembe.
“The coach knows that he was here at the team to bring results, so since the results were not coming in he felt that he was just taking our money for free.
“He said he wanted to work for his money, so he’d rather go than stay at the club.”
Ngcwembe said they asked for the coach to allow them time to discuss and deliberate on the matter, but then saw it best to release him as per his wishes.
Mvalo disputed that his players had something to do with his decision as it was solely based on the fact that he felt he was not doing what he was hired for by the club.
“The players had nothing to do with my resignation. Remember, if you playing in this league you are fighting for promotion . So if results are not coming forth, there’s no reason to stay.
“Because this is not about me, it’s about the team. So I thought if they could get a new coach while they still have time to recover maybe they would stand a chance to get the promotion they need.
“The players fought for me each and every game they played, but the desired results were not coming in, and I was brought in here so that I could take the team to a better position.”
Mvalo said his departure at Tigers was long overdue as he felt it coming.
“I just said to myself let me just walk away. So being the person that I am – I’m not selfish, hence I decided to walk away while there’s still time for the team to find its feet and hopefully catch up in the league.
“I believe when one door closes another opens up, so you might see me working at a higher league or even back to ABC Motsepe.
“And I want to wish everyone at Tigers good luck with their future endeavours because they have talented players – they just need to keep working hard and things will be okay.”
