EC Bees produced a second half match-winning performance as they came from two goals down to continue their dominance over Future Tigers with a hard earned 3-2 victory against their biggest rivals at the Bhisho Stadium over the weekend.
The three points have placed the “Crazy Gang” at 24 points in third position, while Tigers have 20 points and are two places behind their rivals on the ABC Motsepe League standings.
Bees coach Chippa Njedu said the win gave them a lot of confidence going into the festive season break.
“We can see the light now, the boys are showing that they really want this .
“It’s not easy for these young boys to come back from 2-0 down in the second half to get to a 3-2 win.
“That shows us that they mean business and all we need to do is to keep motivating them,” he said.
Njedu identified poor confidence from his opponents as their biggest downfall.
“As much as they were winning the game, you could see that they are respecting us because you check our record – we’ve never lost to Tigers.
“So at the back of their minds they have that thing that we could come back any time, but if they told themselves they can beat us – they would have won the game.
“And if we were leading 2-0l they wouldn’t have been able to come back, they respected the game a lot and we told the boys not give up until the final whistle.”
Bees will play their last game of the year tomorrow against Lion City as the match against the Port Elizabeth-based outfit was postponed to allow Bees to take part in the Nedbank Cup preliminary stages.
The departure of Asanda Mvalo, who resigned as Tigers’ coach on Wednesday might have contributed in the team squandering the golden opportunity of beating Bees for the first time.
But Tigers caretaker coach Vuyo “George” Tyelo said they played a good game but it wasn’t meant to be.
“We didn’t allow them to play because we knew they were going to play wide through their left back and that worked because that’s how we got our first two goals.
“In the second half I thought ‘no man, let’s just play football and change tactically.’ We swapped the formation and we went three up front.”
He said having to replace Amandla Mwrebi when the score was 2-2, he opted to settle for a draw, but they then conceded a third goal.
“What I like about this game is that we lost but we played while going forward and we never defended. I’m sure Bees can say this was one of the toughest matches they have played against us,” he said.
