Exciting times are ahead for the Hudson Park High School first rugby team after they unveiled a new coaching staff for the coming 2018 season earlier this month.
Respected school rugby coach Adam Robertson has officially taken over the reins as head coach from Lwazi Zangqa, who has moved to Hudson Park Primary as their head of rugby.
Robertson arrives back at Hudson Park after a year at Selborne College. He will bring a wealth of experience with him that he will look to utilise over the next three years after agreeing to a three-season contract.
“We are delighted to secure Adam Robertson on a three-year contract as he is one of the best schoolboy rugby coaches in the country,” said Hudson Park High head of rugby James Winstanley, who also doubles as the team’s defence coach.
“His appointment is consistent with our mission statement and our desire to develop and attract coaches who are willing to create the decision-making environ- ments needed to promote enhanced player-decision making.
“With Adam’s proven ability, we are one step closer to our goal of becoming a Top 20 South African rugby school,” Winstanley added.
Also making a move to Hudson is former student Khanyisa Mpumlwana, who has joined as the backline coach.
Mpumlwana arrives from Dale College, where he coached the Dale U15A team, and he will be chomping at the bit to get a taste of first team rugby over the coming season.
Being retained from the past season is forwards coach Ludwe Booi, and the Border Bulldogs hooker will be eager to continue where he left off.
“Additionally we are pleased to announce the appointments of Khanyisa Mpulmwana as backs coach and Ludwe Booi as the forwards coach,” said Winstanley.
“Khanyisa is a proud past pupil and joins his alma mater after accumulating significant experience at under age levels, and is now ready to step up to first team rugby.
“Ludwe’s continuity from last season is an exciting prospect for us as he demonstrated that our pack of forwards can compete with the best.”
The coaching staff will now have their sights set on building on a successful 2017 season.
This included wins over all of the local co-ed sides and a famous 28-27 away victory over powerhouse Selborne College, which was Hudson’s first win at Selborne and third overall.
