Mthatha Bucks have parted ways with one of their most influential strikers, Lucky Mathosi, following a disciplinary hearing earlier this week.

According to Bucks general manager, Luxolo Matikinca, the club decided to release the former AmaTuks striker because of his unruly behaviour and lack of commitment while Amathol’amnyama were facing trying times in the National First Division.

“We decided to release him, because Lucky only came back from the holidays on January 3 while other players have been here since December 28.

“He missed 10 training sessions and on top of that he left a day earlier than the rest of the team.

“So there’s no commitment in a person like that, and it’s not the first time he’s behaving in this manner,” said Matikinca.

“Our situation right now demands that we keep soldiers who are on the same mission we are on as the rest of the team. So him being here is not assisting us in any way.”

Matikinca said the prolific striker from Rustenburg was once in the books of AmaTuks and that showed he had what it takes to play professionally.

“Tuks are one of the organised teams with resources like the High Performance Centre and it means when you are there you can maximise your performance.

“He’s a rare type of a striker but this tells why he never stays for long at clubs, but our chapter with him has ended.”

Mathosi, 27, refused to dwell much on the circumstances that led to the club’s decision to release him. He said all he wanted at the moment was to return home to play for ABC Motsepe League side Buya Msutu, and hopefully help them gain promotion to the NFD.

“On my way home I was thinking to myself that these people are fighting relegation and they are still letting people go and bring in new players.

“They don’t think it will take time for those new guys to understand each other.

“But one thing about me is that I won’t force to be where I’m not wanted because they wanted me gone.”

Mathosi said he has received a few offers he didn’t want made public but he was aiming to try out at Premier Soccer League teams next season.

“There’s offers with good money but I just want to be home right now, because there’s also a business I’m getting off the ground,” he said.

Mathosi thanked Bucks fans for the support they showed him.
