Lethal EC Bees’ striker, Sipho-Sihle “Music” Mtule believes his team stands a good chance of reaching the Nedbank Cup last-16.

Mtule scored five goals against Try Again in the ABC Motsepe League clash at Bhisho Stadium over the weekend as his side cruised to a stunning 6-0 victory.

The former Royal Eagles, winger who has scored 13 goals in the 2017/18 third tier league, said he couldn’t have done it without the incredible support from his teammates, and hopes to keep the momentum going into the Nedbank Cup tournament.

“We always strategise during training, and I’m just happy we can finally pull it off during games,” Mtule said.

“The way I position myself allows my teammates to feed me the ball more often, and I take those chances.

“Like today – being able to convert five chances was a wonderful feeling to have, and it’s thanks to the guys I was able to.”

Mtule said they have been hard at work trying to close the gap in the league, and at the same time preparing for the Nedbank Cup after prevailing through the preliminary stages.

“Nedbank is still a bit far right now, but we are preparing ourselves and for now we busy with league games – game by game.

“Like when we played against PE Stars (drew 1-1) we had a tough time, because they gave us a good game and we had to fight back and we were grateful to return with a point.”

Mtule said he was excited to take part in the Nedbank Cup as it was a golden opportunity to showcase his talent.

“I’m always ready for any match and it is breathtaking for us players who don’t usually get the exposure. Also, playing teams from other provinces will bring us challenges that will make us a better team.

“And the Nedbank Cup is an opportunity for us local players to display our talents to the world, and we are ready for the tournament.

“The Motsepe league is a national platform, and it’s impossible for football scouts to visit every game, but there will be many of them there.”

Bees coach Chippa Njedu said being drawn against Mariveni in the Cup tournament boosted the team’s spirit to such an extent that his charges told him that they will fight to reach the next stage.

“I told them to start with the league games and then we’ll take it from there. Up until now everyone is showing up and we can see that they want to do better this time around.

“We are not going to play against big teams like Chippa United in preparation for the tournament because we are playing a small team in the cup challenge.”

Njedu said he was aware that his cream of the crop might get mouth-watering offers from heavyweight teams after the tournament, but he said there were measures in place to make sure the team doesn’t suffer if it loses players like Mtule.

“I’ve been grooming younger boys just in case something of that sort occurs and, by the look of things, our younger bunch can replace the likes of Mtule.

“We have about eight young boys for crucial departments.”
