The Warriors sealed a superb 29-run win over the Lions in an incredible Sunfoil Series encounter at Buffalo Park that came to an exciting conclusion on Saturday afternoon.

Amazingly 40 wickets fell in just two and a half days, as just 647 runs - the Warriors 193 and 145 all out and the Lions 178 and 131 all out - in total were scored over four innings.

This, however, shouldn't bother the home side as it gives them the perfect start to the second half of the season and puts them right into the mix to pick up some more silverware in the coming weeks.

“It was an incredible match,” said Warriors captain Jon Jon Smuts.

“I think both teams bowled really well, and I thought our catching was really good too.”

The Lions started the final day on 12/1, needing 161 runs to win the match, but an awesome spell of bowling from Tladi Bokako saw him pick up three wickets in two overs as they crashed to 13/4.

Rassie van der Dussen (40), Wiaan Mulder (24), Mangaliso Mosehle (18) and Zanzima Pongolo (24) all then pitched in with important contributions to try get them over the line.

However, Simon Harmer, 3/47, and Smuts, 2.27, backed up Bokako superbly as he finished with best franchise figures of 4/15 with the Lions all out for 131.

Other important contributions from Warriors players over the match saw Yaseen Vallie score 36 and 40, and Colin Ackermann score 55 and 20 over two innings respectively, while Harmer, 3/46, and Smuts, 3/31, shared six wickets between them in the Lions first innings.

The Warriors next play the Dolphins in Port Elizabeth from this coming week Thursday.
