The Mncotsho Location Rugby Easter Tournament that will take place near Berlin is in its last week of preparations and more clubs have registered to participate in the much anticipated rugby clash.

President of Homestars, Msindisi Majikazana yesterday told the Daily Dispatch that by tomorrow they would have finalised everything.

He also encouraged more interested parties not to hesitate coming forward as there was limited time and space.

“We are in the final stages now and we have a couple of days left until we finalise everything, and that’s when the fixtures will be released (Friday), when all the clubs have affiliated.

“We want to let all clubs know that all teams will play a minimum of two games, meaning if a club had lost they will join the group of the losers which has a R2000 prize-money for the winner.

“Because when there were calls we got voicing their concerns about playing only one game, so people should contact us for further information,” said Majikazana.

He said all the teams that have confirmed they will be attending have been catered for in terms of accommodation and safety.

“We have already met with community of Mncotsho to tell them that we’ll be having visitors, so that they are protected at all times.

“Most of the teams have been playing friendlies in preparation for this tournament and they are ready to play, but each club has its own plans with the tournament.”

The 16 teams that have confirmed their participation stand a chance of winning the first prize of R15000 or second prize of R8000, and a third prize of R3000.

The hosts, Homestars, have won the tournament for two years in a row, and they will be looking to defend the title at home.

Border Rugby will provide match officials to handle all the games.

This year the organisers have included a netball tournament that will also see teams from respective areas fighting for the crown.

Here are some of the teams that have confirmed: Protea from Nxaruni, Flying Stars, Sun Rise, Moonlight from Berlin and Tigers from Potsdam. Sea Lion from Luxomo, Fire Brigade, and Springbok from Kei Road are also in.

Enry fee still stands at R1000, and clubs interested in affiliating can contact Majikazana on 083-339-2543 or Mzo Dlova on 072-164-3773.
