Chippa United will be looking to steal maximum points when they return to their happy hunting ground, the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane this afternoon.

The Chilli Boys will be hosting Free State Stars at the NU2 venue in a Premier Soccer League match, and will be looking to upset the Bethlehem-based outfit, who beat them 2-1 in the lucrative Nedbank Cup last 16 at the weekend.

Chippa United vice-captain, James Okwuosa, said this was a crucial encounter, and they were confident of stealing maximum points after having suffered a bit of a knock in the league.

“This is another chance for us to play Free State Stars like we did in the Nedbank Cup, where we were playing away. This time we are positive of winning.

“I think this is the PSL game that matters most, and we are hoping for the motivation of fans from around the province to give us that boost that will help us be victorious today,” said Okwuosa.

The dependable central defender said he was delighted this game was to be played at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

“I know where we are on the log is not good, and that’s another reason we are happy this game is being played in East London.

“And like I said earlier, it’s going to motivate us a lot because Sisa has been favourable to us to get maximum points. So hopefully it’s going to motivate the boys again.

“We are really excited to play this game there and the spirit in the camp is warm… everybody is motivated and they all want to play.”

Okwuosa admitted they were not in a good log position with 27 points, while sitting in 12th spot after recording only five wins, 12 draws with six losses.

“We just have to start today, and winning this game will change things a lot. We had four games that we struggled in, so a win today is going to make a huge difference for us.

“Talking about Free State Stars, it’s like a cup final for us.

“We are going to do everything to make sure that we win and everybody has to be responsible and show character so that can happen.”

He said working with new coach Vladislav Heric was “awesome’’, adding he was very ambitious.

“He’s the kind of coach that always speaks on the positives of each game and the places we need to improve on.

“I believe in his philosophy, which is scoring goals and trying to keep the sheet clean. That’s very good for any team and I was very excited to know I’ll work with him again.”

Okwuosa thanked the Chilli Boys’ fans, saying they have been the best supporters, always filling up the NU2 venue.

“It doesn’t matter who we play, they have been coming out in numbers to make sure the stadium is full and the atmosphere is so warm.

“They make the game so lively and we want to see them coming out in the numbers as usual, and we’ll do our best to make sure they go home happy,” said Okwuosa.
