The Border semi-professional team are back in action as they take on Northerns in the Sunfoil Three-Day Cup at Buffalo Park today.

The team will be going all out for a positive result Borin the vital clash with Border needing a win if they are to have any chance of topping the group and reaching the final.

“The guys are excited and ready for the game,” said Border coach Frank Plaatjes.

“I believe in this team and have full confidence that they can get a positive result against Northerns.”

Border are coming off the back of a draw with KwaZulu-Natal in Durban this past weekend and the team will want to improve on that performance and claim an important win.

With the season heading into its final few weeks, momentum will be important, and having won and drawn their last two games another win will put the team in a good frame of mind.

In the KZN game Border’s bowlers were once again in top form.

They managed to bowl out KZN for 154, while all put in great efforts, Gionne Koopman’s 3/7 led the way.

Border’s batsmen did not do as good a job, although they managed to take a 72-run lead with Martin Walters (53) and captain Abongile Sodumo (42) the standout performers.

KZN managed to put up a bigger fight in their second innings and managed to bat long enough that Border did not have sufficient time to chase down the target.

Yanda Pangabantu’s 3/41 led the way for Border to bowl them out for 306, leaving Border 235 runs to win, however they could only reach 114/4 with Marco Marais unbeaten at the crease on 36.

If Border are to get a positive result over Northerns and in their final two games they will need their bowling unit to keep up the good work while their batsmen will need to up their game and become more ruthless, especially when their bowlers put them in a great position.

“The bowlers have been really good this season and their consistent line and length has benefited them in the games we have played,” said Plaatjes.

“For the batsmen the key is for us to get a good start and one of the top four to bat through and score a century if possible and aim for a 300-plus score.”

A relatively unchanged side will most likely take the field today, with Darryl Brown looking to be the only change after being called up to train with the Warriors ahead of the rest of their Momentum One-Day Cup games.

“Darryl is still with the Warriors so he is not available for the match,” said Plaatjes.

Other Border players who were unavailable for selection due to Warriors duty include Somila Seyiboke and Aya Gqamane while Lundi Mbane has also been called up for the one-day season.
