Chilli Boys blow hot against Swallows

CHIPPA United yesterday won their first game away from home this season with a 2-0 Premiership triumph over Moroka Swallows in Dobsonville.

The goals were scored by Uzonna Uzochukwu and David Zulu who has now scored three goals in six matches in the current campaign, making him the club's top goal-scorer.

Before yesterday's victory, the Port Elizabeth side had experienced a fourgame winless streak with three losses and a draw.

Yesterday’s victory could not have come at a better time to boost their confidence before facing off with a determined Orlando Pirates in 13 days’ time at home.

Also, the win is expected to boost interim coach Roger Sikhakhane's chances of being appointed on a permanent basis – this having been his first game fully in charge.

Last season’s National First Division champions have jumped from position 14 on the log to nine, affording a breather for the club's ambitious owner Chippa Mpengesi.

Chippa also managed to protect their impressive head-to-head record against the Soweto club. In three top flight football matches, including those in Chippa’s maiden season in the Premiership in 2011/12, Chilli Boys have won two with the other game ending in a draw.

The game was fairly balanced in the opening 10 minutes but the home side was more promising in their attacks led by captain Lerato Chabangu, who, whenever he had the ball, was surrounded by two to three Chippa players.

The visitors, too, had a fair share of the scoring chances created in the opening minutes but struggled take the lead early in the game.

It was in the 21st minute that George Akpabio missed a sitter for Chilli Boys with only Swallows goalkeeper Shane Stephens to beat after being set up nicely via a well-timed through pass from Zulu.
