Classic fare on cards at race circuit

Border karting action will be back in full flow this weekend as the fourth round of the club champs takes place at the East London Grand Prix circuit.

An exciting three rounds have been battled out so far and the log has started to take shape with leaders beginning to distinguish themselves from the chasing pack.

This weekend’s action should see some drivers attempting to make a move up the log while others aim to consolidate.

In the 50cc Cadet Class, reigning champion Kaylim Padayachee holds a comfortable lead and will want to start closing out this year’s championship as it heads into the second half of the season.

Jordan van der Merwe will want to fight back after a disappointing round three and Dylan Stevens will want to try and consolidate his third place.

The 60cc Junior class is a similar affair with 2015 champ Sebastian Smith in a class of his own this season as he holds a commanding lead over second-placed Jordan Dorning, while Port Elizabeth’s Kenzo Barnard trails in third.

Jared de Kock will be hoping to continue his fine form as he leads the way in the Clubman’s class A, while in the Clubman’s B it is a much closer affair, with Neil Stephen leading the standings ahead of David Burberry, and Tristan Wantenaar in second and third, which should make for some interesting racing.

Class C sees Cherne Marais currently topping the log, with last year’s champ Cuan Flusk in close attendance, and these two will be going all out for top honours, while Melandre Marais in third will also look to complicate things.

The DD2 class has Shaun Gradwell leading the way ahead of a hard charging 2015 champion Geoff Stephen, who is intent on making up some ground in second place.

Gates open at 8am on Saturday morning, with the first race of the day scheduled for 12noon.
