Emperors look to rule over Tornado

Emperors will be looking to maintain the momentum from their 7-1 victory over Elliot when they face title contenders Tornado in a ABC Motsepe League soccer fixture at Zwide Stadium this afternoon. The game will not be an easy one as both sides are desperate for the three points.

The Port Elizabeth side are fighting to stay clear of the relegation zone, while East London’s Tornado are chasing the league title.

Emperors’ victory last week helped the Bay team to move away from the danger zone, putting them in 12th place with 22 points.

The three bottom teams – Emperors FC, Morning Stars and Highbury – are level on points, but Emperors are ahead due to a better goal difference.

A win for Emperors will not only help their fight to avoid relegation, but will also assist Lion City in extending their lead over Tornado on the log.

City are at the top with 64 points from 28 games, two ahead of Tornado.

Notwithstanding the Emperors versus Tornado result, Motherwell side City will be determined to secure full points against Subs to ensure they remain on top.

The fixtures are:

Today:

3pm: Buffalo v Elliot (Jan Smuts Stadium), Emperors v Tornado (Zwide Stadium), Young Ideas v Kokstad Liverpool (NU9 Motherwell Stadium), Mthatha City v Zimbane Killers (Rotary Stadium), EC Bees v Highbury (Ginsberg Stadium), Matta Milan v Future Tigers (Idutywa Stadium), Subs v Lion City.
