EP Kings boost for EL coach

EAST London rugby coach Phiwe Nomlomo is heading to the EP Kings after the South African Rugby Union (Saru) appointed him as the new head coach of the Kings Academy.

It is a mega move for Nomlomo, who has previously only coached at school and junior provincial levels.

“This is a big opportunity that I have been given here and I am going to take it with both hands and do my best,” said Nomlomo.

He is well-known and respected on the local coaching scene, having spent six years at Selborne College, working his way up to joint coach of the first team.

He has also been part of the Border junior coaching structures where he has coached at the Grant Khomo Week and at the Craven Week.

Having matriculated from Selborne, he returned to the school as a teacher and coach following the end of his playing career.

Nomlomo said it was a tough decision to move on.

“It hit me this last week that I would be leaving and, since I went to school here and then taught and coached here, it was a hard decision, but one I feel I had to make,” said Nomlomo.

He will be starting his new job on Monday and hopes to dive straight in.

“I am going to be focusing on developing the young and up-and-coming guys and taking them to the next level,” he said.
