IBO position for EL administrator

There is yet another vote of confidence for East London boxing after the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) appointed Luthando Jack as its commissioner for the African continent.

Jack, a Boxing SA board member, joins “homeboys” Andile Sidinile and Vuyani Bungu who were also appointed by the New Jersey-based world sanctioning body.

Sidinile, who is also a promoter for Sjuta Promotions, is the second commissioner for the IBO while former world champion and boxing legend Bungu was recently unveiled as the IBO ambassador on the continent.

Jack, who was born in Qumbu in the former Transkei, said he was pleasantly surprised when he was approached by the IBO and asked to submit his curriculum vitae.

“I never expected this but to me it serves as an affirmation of the boxing development on the African continent,” Jack said.

While Bungu and Sidinile are seasoned boxing campaigners, Jack is relatively new in the boxing lore although he has always been a fan.

His position in boxing administration started only two years ago when he was appointed by Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula to serve on the Boxing SA board.

Despite being a budding boxing administrator, Jack will now add an international feather in his cap as he will supervise IBO-sanctioned tournaments in the continent.

“Mr Jack has proved his boxing acumen as he heads the finance and human resources committee within BSA and we feel he will help the IBO in the development and betterment of boxing on the African continent,” the IBO statement reads.

Jack said his appointment would help consolidate the relationship BSA was forging with world sanctioning bodies.

He heads the strategic direction BSA is taking towards the development of boxing in the country.
