After playing an instrumental role in guiding the South African U-23 team’s qualification for the Rio Olympics and following his spectacular debut in the Absa Premiership earlier this season, Bidvest Wits newcomer, Phakamani Mahlambi, was named the Player of the Month for November-December 2015.

Mahlambi, just 18, is a first-time winner of the award.

He scored three goals and played a vital role with a number of crucial assists for his title-chasing side during this period.

Mahlambi’s Braamfontein-based team, Bidvest Wits, sit one point behind log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns.

The teenage sensation shared the stage at the Premier Soccer League’s monthly awards ceremony with Pitso Mosimane, who was named the Coach of the Month for November-December 2015.

Mosimane, who came under criticism from some of his home fans early in the season, has seen them singing a different tune after steering Sundowns to a 10-game unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership. Their results have been matched by an impressive style of football.

The judges praised Mosimane for his tactical acumen, bringing stability to the Sundowns team, consistency in team selection and getting the best out of his players.

Sundowns beat Chippa United, Free State Stars and Orlando Pirates during the November-December period, scoring six goals in the process. They currently top the log standings, with 30 points from 14 games.

The Sundowns coach beat off competition from Muhsin Ertugral of Mpumalanga Black Aces and Bidvest Wits’ Gavin Hunt.

Both, Player and Coach of the Month, were selected by a panel of judges convened by renowned local coach, Farouk Khan, as well as members of the media.

As proud sponsors of the Absa Premiership, Absa congratulates Mahlambi and Mosimane on winning their respective accolades for November-December and looks forward to their exceptional contributions for the remainder of the season.

Judging panel includes: Farouk Khan (convenor), Velile Mbuli, Thabo Kofa, Brian Mathe. (Absent - William Shongwe)
