Tornado boss salutes winds of change

Tornado FC head coach Jerry “Legs of Thunder” Skhosana is all smiles for what he terms a change of attitude at the club since his arrival in June.

The Mdantsane-based club has yet to lose in a competitive game since the start of the ABC Motsepe League 2014-15 EC season three weeks ago.

They boast a 100% record after two matches and have also qualified for the Nedbank playoffs.

Skhosana believes Tornado players understand that they have goals to achieve and targets to reach.

“The attitude has surely improved for the better; the boys know what they want and what to do to get it,” said the former Orlando Pirates striker.

“Equally so, they understand the vision of club chairman and everyone’s hands are on deck to realise the club’s vision of gaining promotion to the NFD next season.”

The former lethal marksman has attributed the change of attitude to the culture he has introduced at the club.

“Their positive attitude may partly be credited to the approach I brought with to the club as someone who has achieved at the highest level of professional football,” he said.

“They know that they too can achieve big things if they work hard and listen to their coach and most importantly they know I’m not bluffing when I tell them to do this and that because I was a soccer player before.”

According to Skhosana, Tornado were not yet “at the standard I want them in” as a lot is still needed to be done, including roping in a few players to tighten up in a few departments.

Tornado beat Matta Milan 1-0 this past weekend.

Meanwhile, league defending champions Angavu Stars’ poor start to the 2014-15 campaign continued when they lost to Highbury FC at the weekend.

Angavu are yet to register a win in a competitive match since the start of the campaign having lost the league opener to La Liga, then were hammered 3-1 by FC Buffalo in the Nedbank Cup playoffs before the loss to Highbury.

This is obviously not the start defending champions would have wished for, but surely their move from Queenstown as their home to East London is proving difficult to work in their favour.

Elsewhere, La Liga FC from Alfred Nzo are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in what is their maiden season in the second division league after buying status from Champion FC.

They thumped Morning Stars 3-0 this past weekend after having humiliated Angavu 3-1 in their league opening game. They went on a rampage in the Nedbank Cup playoffs, thrashing Kokstad Liverpool 4-0 before another 3-0 convincing victory over FC Elliot.

In other matches last weekend, Mthatha City’s clash with FC Buffalo ended in a goalless draw while Mthatha Bucks, who are also yet to lose in this league campaign with the exception of the Nedbank Cup playoffs won 1-0 against Kokstad Liverpool.

Real City triumphed 1-0 against JB Milan and Zimbane United were 4-2 victors in a face off with Cacadu United.
