Tornado in fight to bitter end

“This league will be decided in the last game and it is not going to be over until then,” said Tornado coach Thobela Bikwani after his side dropped two points at home following a 2-all draw against EC Bees at the weekend.

The Mdantsane side have since dropped to second place in the ABC Motsepe League 2015-16 log standings with Lion City climbing to the summit after a 2-1 win over Highbury in Port Elizabeth.

City now lead the title race at 58 points, two adrift of Tornado with just four matches remaining before the curtain comes down on the season.

Tornado though were not the only title contenders to drop points as third-placed FC Elliot also suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat at the hands of Mthatha City, which means they remain rooted in position three and five points behind log leaders City.

Bikwani admitted that his side should have collected maximum points against Bees but conceded that the pressure that comes with being title contenders perhaps got the better of his players.

“We dropped very crucial points but you must understand that most of these players are in a high pressure situation for the first time and will crack from time to time,” said a disappointed Bikwani.

“Such things happen in football but we will keep pushing because if and when Lion City stumble, we will go to the top spot.”

Bees coach Chippa Njendu was pleased with the draw away from home.

“What is important for us is that we are already preparing for next season because we are out of the title race.”

Tornado came from behind twice in the match they appeared to be losing at some stage. Bees drew the first blood in the 20th minute of the opening stanza courtesy of Sanele Gasa.

But Thobile Mkhize scored a beautiful header to bring Tornado back on the half-time stroke.

Immediately back from the break, Gasa was back with his second of the match, taking advantage of the Tornado defence that was caught fast asleep.
