UFH hosts 5km fun run

The sporting side to the University of Fort Hare’s centenary celebrations continue in earnest tomorrow with a 5km fun run and a walk.

With emphasis on the family being the main characteristic of UFH, the university’s spokesperson Zintle Filtane encouraged families to turn out in their droves.

“This is not like any other fun run and walk.

“It is a symbolic one dedicated to the founder of Lovedale College who forms part of the history and heritage of this university, so people must embrace this event,” said Filtane.

The fun run is the second leg of what is expected to be a great sporting year for the institution as it celebrates 100 years of existence.

The UFH’s 15-8 loss to the University of Western Cape on Monday night at the varsity’s main campus in Alice unofficially kicked off what is expected to be a momentous sporting year for the university.

The participation fee for the fun run has been set at R20, with all the proceeds set to be contributed to the UFH dignity pack meant to assist struggling students.

All participants in the fun run will walk away with free t-shirt, while all finishers will be given medals at the end of the race.

Registration will be open as of 7am tomorrow and resources to organise the event will be managed by organisers of the respected Legends Marathon.

Even the founder of Legends Marathon, Luthando Bara, vowed that he would be taking part in the fun run and promised to finish.

The actual fun run will start at 8am tomorrow. — DDC
